The Teachers And Staff At Guitar Works, Inc.
Brian Medas owner and founder of Guitar Works started playing the guitar at the age of 7. He went on to study with the great guitar masters Jesus Silva, Andres Segovia, John Williams and Alirio Diaz. After graduating from The University of North Carolina School Of The Arts he went on to several years of performing which included two years as an Artist In Residence for the state of North Carolina followed by teaching at Virginia Commonwealth University as head of the guitar department. In 1978 Brian founded Guitar Works, Inc. The shop opened it's doors in this old house on Cary Street which it still occupy today. Over these 38 years Guitar Works has grown tremendously, sold thousands of instruments, represented the major brands, helped over one million people with their musical needs, taught over a half a million lessons and repaired thousands of instruments. In 2000 Guitar Brian started producing his own line of instruments simply branded Guitar Works, Inc. Instruments. There was and still is a need for a higher quality instruments in the "affordable" price range which feature the unique service of being completely set-up and adjusted for perfect play. The need for these instruments is tremendous due to the fact that most instruments sold in this price range are and have always been poor quality and poor playing cheap guitars in a box. Well 25,000+ Guitar Works, Inc. instruments later the line is doing great, gaining popularity with both professional and amateur players. The store has become somewhat of a Richmond & Virginia Landmark. Through GW, eBay, Amazon and Reverb websites Guitar Works continues to serve customers all across the U.S., Canada and several countries abroad.

On most Mondays Maria Medas takes the day off from her duties as a dog & cat whisperer at RAL (Richmond Animal League) and helps her ole Dad out at Guitar Works. Maria started plunking on a uke when she was 2, went on to singing and playing guitar, performing everything from popular tunes to her own original music. Maria can restring a guitar almost as fast as the old man, help folks pick out an instrument, a set of strings or accessories, you name it.
